    Description

This NFT image depicts “a fictional Mona Lisa”

It is believed that Leonardo da Vinci did meet the subject of his famous painting, the Mona Lisa. The Mona Lisa is widely believed to be a portrait of Lisa Gherardini, a woman from Florence, Italy. Leonardo da Vinci was living in Florence around the time that Lisa Gherardini was alive, and he was known to have been a portrait painter in the city.

However, while there is no direct evidence that the two ever met, it is likely that they did, as Lisa Gherardini was a member of a prominent Florentine family and would have moved in similar social circles to Leonardo da Vinci.

Regardless of whether they actually met, it is clear that Leonardo da Vinci was familiar with Lisa Gherardini and her family, as he was commissioned to paint her portrait by her husband, Francesco del Giocondo. The painting, which is now known as the Mona Lisa, is believed to have been completed between 1503 and 1506.
